This giraffe (or “BRRR-affe”!) is all bundled up for winter! His plush hat and scarf make him look super cute and the contrast of plush and regular yarn really compliments the entire look of the giraffe! This pattern is a bigger project and is great if you’re looking for a pattern to keep you busy. The legs, body, and neck are all crocheted into one piece. The head is sewn on along with his clothing accessories, tail, and ears/horns. Let’s get started!

Stitch count: We made a total of 44 stitches in this round. The legs are now connected to the belly.

In the next round we will crochet on the body and legs to start forming the rest of the body. We do NOT crochet back into the stitches that connect the leg to the body in the last round. Instead, we will crochet on the body and unused leg stitches from Round 4.

Round 5: Working on the leg, Sc in the next 14 st (Pic 1). Working on the body, Sc in the next 4 st (Pic 2).

1.2.3.4.5.6.7.8.

Round 6-17: *Sc* all around (84)

In the next round we will make a chain. This chain will separate the neck from the back.

Round 18: Sc in the next 4 st. Ch 12 (Pic 1). Skip the next 25 st, Sc in the 26th st (Pic 2-3). Move your stitch marker to the Sc you just made. This stitch marker now marks our new rounds.
The smaller section in the neck and has 37 total stitches (25 sc and 12 ch).
The bigger section in the back and has 68 total stitches (59 sc and 12 ch).

1.2.3.

Round 18 (continued): Continuing to work in the following stitches, make a decrease in the next stitch. I recommend making your decreases as invisible decreases if you want the decreases to be less noticeable. To do this, make the decrease by working in the next 2 stitches of the front loops only. Then, yarn over and pull through both loops. This will make your decrease look cleaner.
Sc in the next 4 st. Repeat *Dec 1 time, Sc in the next 4 st* 8 times. Sc in the next 4 st. Now we meet the chain.
Working on the chain (Pic 4-5), Sc in the next 2 st. Dec 1 time, Sc in the next 4 st, Dec 1 time. Sc in the next 2 st (Pic 6). Stitch count: 60

Wrap the scarf around the toy as shown.
1. Start at the body of the giraffe, drape the scarf across its body.
2. Then, loosely wrap the scarf around the lower part of the toy’s neck.
3. Wrap the scarf around the toy’s neck firmly twice more.
4. Bring the last strip of the scarf underneath the 3rd loop then let this strip land above the 3rd loop as shown.
Secure the scarf by placing lifting a small part of the scarf up, placing hot glue on the toy giraffe, then placing the scarf back down and holding in place to secure. Repeat this a few times on a few parts of the giraffe.

  1. So cute have to try

  2. Oh my goodness this is SO CUTE!!!!!!!!!! I can’t wait to try it!!!! 😄

  3. Hy! Thank you so much for this pattern, I was looking for a small giraffe pattern and this is perfect! I will be making this for Christmas!

  4. On row 5, on the amount of stitches for the 4th leg, pattern reads “4sc.” The other legs are all 14 sc. Shouldn’t this be 14 instead of 4? Love your patterns. I made, the pound puppy a while back. This giraffe is darling.

  5. Do you have to use bulky yarn for the hat and scarf? Or would normal yarn work just as well?

    1. Bulky yarn works up larger than regular yarn. So if you made the hat in regular yarn, it may come out smaller. You can still use regular yarn for the hat, but you may have to make an extra increase round (or two extra increase rounds) after Round 8. Just make sure the circle looks like it will cover the head of the giraffe 🙂 Then you can continue making rounds of single crochets (Round 9-12). Once again, you may need to make an extra Sc round (or an extra two rounds of Sc) for the correct length. Once the length of the hat is to your liking, make Round 14 as normal. Your stitch count will be different, but that won’t matter since the FpDc, BpDc round will come out the same regardless of the stitch count. For the scarf, I would recommend making about 6 chains instead of just 4. The scarf would be too skinny if you used regular yarn and only had 4 chains. Make the Sc rows of the scarf until it measures 45″ long. Hope this helps! 🙂

      1. Thank you for the tips.

  6. Super cute – just like everything else I’ve made with your patterns 😁 Thank you for your creativity

  7. Took longer than I thought, but pleased with the results.
