• Yarn 6/Chunky Weight Yarn in…
Green, red, white, and black
•4mm Crochet Hook
•9mm safety eyes
•Tapestry needle
•Scissors
•Stuffing

It’s well known that hummingbirds love sweet things. That’s exactly why you should crochet a hummingbird for someone sweet in your life! This pattern is easy and works up as a nice quick project! This bird would also look very cute in other colors, such as purple.

Body:

Start in Green

Round 1: 6 Sc into a Magic Ring (6)
Round 2: *Inc* all around (12)
Round 3: *Inc, Sc in the next st* all around (18)
Round 4: *Inc, Sc in the next 2 st* all around (24)
Round 5: Sc in the next 10 st. Change to red, Hdc in the next st, Dc in the next st, Trc in the next 2 st, Dc in the next st, Hdc in the next st. Change to green, Sc in the next 8 st (24)
Now we will mark where to place the safety eyes. Add a different colored eye stitch marker into the 11th and 16th stitch in Round 5.
Round 6: Sc in the next 9 st. Change to red, Sc in the next st, Hdc in the next st, Dc in the next 4 st, Hdc in the next st, Sc in the next st. Change to green, Sc in the next 7 st (24)
Round 7: Sc in the next 9 st, Change to red and Sc in the next st, Hdc in the next st, Dc in the next 4 st, Hdc in the next st, Sc in the next st. Change to green, Sc in the next 7 st (24)
Round 8: Sc in the next 9 st. Change to white and Sc in the next 8 st. Change to green, Sc in the next 7 st (24) Add the safety eyes into the marked areas now.
Round 9-11: Sc in the next 10 st. Change to white, Sc in the next 8 st. Change to green and Sc in the next 6 st (24)
Round 12-14: Sc in the next 11 st. Change to white and Sc in the next 8 st. Change to green and Sc in the next 5 st (24)
Round 15: Sc in the next 12 st. Change to white and Sc in the next 8 st. Change to green and Sc in the next 4 st (24)
Round 16: Sc in the next 12 st. Change to white and Dec in the next st, Sc in the next 4 st, Dec in the next st. Change to green and Sc in the next 4 st (22)
Round 17: Sc in the next 12 st. Change to white and Dec 1 time, Sc in the next 2 st, Dec 1 time. Change to green and Sc in the next 4 st (20)
Round 18: Sc in the next 13 st. Change to white and Sc in the next 4 st. Change to green and Sc in the next 3 st (20) Stuff firmly now. Stuff after each round.
Round 19: Sc in the next 11 st, Dec 1 time, Sc in the next st. Change to white and Sc in the next 2 st. Change to green and Sc in the next st, Dec 1 time, Sc in the next st (18)
Round 20: *Dec, Sc in the next 2 st* 3 times. Sc in the next st. Change to white and Sc in the next 2 st. Change to green and Sc in the next 3 st (15)
Round 21: Sc in the next 11 st. Change to white and Sc in the next 2 st. Change to green and Sc in the next 2 st (15)
Round 22: *Dec, Sc in the next 2 st* 3 times. Dec 1 time, Sc in the next st (11)
Round 23: *Sc* all around (11)
Round 24: Sc in the next 8 st. Align the stitches together as shown and working through both stitches at the same time (Pic 1-2), Sc in the next st. Repeat*Ch 3, Sc in the 2nd Ch from the hook, Hdc in the next ch. Working through both stitches of the tail, SlSt in the next st* 4 times.

Finish off, leaving a long tail for sewing. Weave in the ends and cut any excess yarn.

Wings: (Make 2)

Start in Green

Round 1: 6 Sc into a Magic Ring (6)
Round 2: *Inc* all around (12)
Round 3: *Inc, Sc in the next st* all around (18)
Round 4: *Inc, Sc in the next 2 st* all around (24)
Round 5: *Inc, Sc in the next 3 st* all around (30)
Round 6: *Inc, Sc in the next 4 st* all around (36)
Round 7: Align both stitches together and working through both stitches as the same time, Sc in the next 11 st, Hdc in the next st, Dc in the next 3 st, Trc in the next 3 st.
Turn. Repeat *Ch 3, SlSt in the next st* 3 times.


Pin the wings on as shown and sew or hot glue on. Once done, weave in ends and cut any excess yarn.

 

Nose:

In Black

Round 1: 6 Sc into a Magic Ring (6)
Round 2-8: *Sc* all around (6)
Finish off, leaving a long tail for sewing. Pin the nose on as shown now and sew on. Once done, weave in ends and cut any excess yarn.

Feet:

Using black yarn, embroider the feet on now.

  1. Here’s my birdie! But is there a way to change colors without noticing they were changed? Had a hard time with that

    2. Hy, I have a recomendation for the color changes! Even though i am not sure if they work for changing half way through a round i hope this helps. So when the upcoming stitch is a new color pull through the two loops of the previous stitch with the new color, then if you are going to single crochet you yarn over with your past color and you finish the stitch yarning over and passing through the two loops with the new color!
      I know this is not very esy to follow but i did my best explaining!
      Also, if you are a begginer, i do not recommend this since it is a bit difficult to keep your stitches tight and neat.
      If you do not understand my explenation please tell me and I will explain again!

  2. Had fun creating this. I modified it a bit as the beak seemed a little too thick for a hummingbird, so I wrapped wire in black thread then hot-glued it to the face. Really pleased at how it turned out.
