This cereal set is super cute and would undeniably make a fun “play set” for any young child! Each little object in this cereal bundle has a smile 🙂 Isn’t that so cute?! The cereal includes two types of shapes: loops and balls, so you can make the type of cereal you like most! (I’m partial to loops 😁) . Let’s get started!

Milk for Bowl:

Start in White

Round 1: 6 Sc into a Magic Ring (6)
Round 2: *Inc* all around (12)
Round 3: *Inc, Sc in the next st* all around (18)
Round 4: *Inc, Sc in the next 2 st* all around (24)
Round 5: *Inc, Sc in the next 3 st* all around (30)
Round 6: *Inc, Sc in the next 4 st* all around (36)
Round 7: *Inc, Sc in the next 5 st* all around (42)
Round 8: *Inc, Sc in the next 6 st* all around (48)

Round 11: *Inc, Sc in the next 9 st* all around (66)
Round 12: *Inc, Sc in the next 10 st* all around (72)
Finish off and weave in ends. Set aside for now. Place the milk onto cardboard. Trace around the crochet piece onto the cardboard, then cut out the cardboard. This will give you a circular cardboard shape. Later we will insert this cardboard into the cereal so that the “milk” part is flat, rather than uneven and lumpy from the stuffing. 6 Sc into a Magic Ring (6)

Bowl:

In Red

Round 1: 6 Sc into a Magic Ring (6)
Round 2: *Inc* all around (12)

Round 8: Working in the BLO, *Sc* all around (42)

Round 15-17: *Sc* all around (72)
Round 18: Sc in the next 20 st. Sc in the next st and add a different colored stitch marker into this stitch. This will mark where we place the eye later. Sc in the next 10 st. Add a different colored St marker into the st you just made. This will mark where to place the eye later. Now Sc in the rest of the 41 st (72)
eyes, 10 st apart
Round 19-21: *Sc* all around (72)
Add the eyes into the marked areas now.
Round 22: Now we will crochet the milk to the bowl. Align the milk stitches to the bowl stitches. This entire round we will be working through BOTH stitches of the bowl while inserting our hook into ONLY the front loop of the milk’s stitches — Sc all around, making sure to stuff firmly and add the cardboard in before fully crocheting closed (72)
Round 23-24: Working in BOTH loops on just the bowl, *Sc* all around (72)
Finish off and weave in ends. Cut any excess yarn. Add smile and cheeks now, see end of this page for these instructions.

Cereal Loops:

In any color

I made 2 rings each in the following colors: pastel pink, pastel blue, pastel green, and pastel yellow.
Round 1: Ch 18. Sc to the 1st Ch made. Then, Sc in the next 17 st (18)
Round 2: *Sc* all around (18)
Round 3: *Inc, Sc in the next 2 st* all around (24)
Round 4-6: *Sc* all around (24)
Round 7: *Dec, Sc in the next 2 st* all around (18)
Finish off, leaving a long tail for sewing. Before we sew the ring closed, we need to stuff it. To stuff it easier, take a handful-sized amount of stuffing. Then, roll the stuffing between your hands in a back-and-forth motion to make the stuffing into a long tube-shape. Stuff this inside the ring. Then, sew the ring closed.

Cereal Balls: (Make 3)

In any color

I made a cereal ball in pastel pink, pastel yellow, and pastel green.
Round 1: 6 Sc into a Magic Ring (6)
Round 2: *Inc* all around (12)
Round 3: *Inc, Sc in the next st* all around (18)
Round 4: *Sc* all around (18)
Add a different colored stitch marker into the 8th and 11th stitch in Round 4. These mark where to place the eyes later.
Round 5-6: *Sc* all around (18)
Add the eyes into the marked areas now. Add stuffing after each round.
Round 7: *Dec, Sc in the next st* all around (12)
Round 8: *Dec* all around (6)
Finish off, leaving a long tail for sewing. Sew the remaining stitches closed and weave in ends. Cut any excess yarn. Add a smile now. See the end of this page for these instructions.

Round 15: *Dec, Sc in the next st* all around (12)
Round 16: *Sc* all around (12)
Round 17: *Dec, Sc in the next 2 st* all around (9)
Don’t stuff the spoon’s “scooping” part. Instead, we will stuff the handle. Stuff every few rounds on the next section.
Round 18-40: *Sc* all around (9)
Round 41: *Dec* 4 times. Ignore the last st.
Finish off, leaving a long tail for sewing. Sew the remaining stitches closed and weave in ends. Cut any excess yarn. Add a smile to the spoon now, see the end of this page for these instructions.

Milk Carton

Front and Back box: (Make 2)

In White

Row 1: Ch 12. Sc in the 2nd Ch from the hook. Sc in the next 10 st (11)
Row 2-10: Ch 1 and turn. Sc in the next 11 st (11)
Sc around the sides of the crocheted piece to make the piece look cleaner.
Finish off, leaving a long tail for sewing. Place each piece onto a piece of cardboard and trace around the piece. Cut out the traced part. Later we will insert these cutouts into the milk box to make the box an actual box shape rather than lumpy form the stuffing.
Insert the safety eyes in between Row 6 and 7, about 5 st apart. Then sew on smile and cheeks. See the end of this page for these instructions.

Sides of box: Left/right (Make 2)

In White

Row 1: Ch 9. Sc in the 2nd Ch from the hook. Sc in the next 7 st (8)
Row 2-10: Ch 1 and turn. Sc in the next 8 st (8)
Sc around the sides of the crocheted piece to make the piece look cleaner.
Finish off, leaving a long tail for sewing. Place each piece onto a piece of cardboard and trace around the piece. Cut out the traced part. Set aside for now.

Assembly: Align the side of a “left/right” piece to the side of a “front/back” piece and sew the sides together. Continue sewing these pieces together until the box is as shown.

Bottom of Box: (Make 1)

In White

Row 1: Ch 12. Sc in the 2nd Ch from the hook. Sc in the next 10 st (11)
Row 2-8: Ch 1 and turn. Sc in the next 11 st (7)
Sc around the sides of the crocheted piece to make the piece look cleaner.
Finish off, leaving a long tail for sewing. Place each piece onto a piece of cardboard and trace around the piece. Cut out the traced part. Set aside the cardboard for now. Sew the bottom piece to the rest of the box.

Cardboard Assembly: Place the cardboard pieces into the box now. I hot glued the cardboard into the toy to make it stay in place better.

Lid Front & Back: (Make 2)

In White

Row 1: Ch 12. Sc in the 2nd Ch from the hook. Sc in the next 10 st (11)
Row 2-8: Ch 1 and turn. Sc in the next 11 st (11)
Finish off the first piece you make. After making the second piece, do NOT finish off, Instead, continue with assembly. First, sew the pieces to the box. Then, align the tops of the pieces together and crochet them together. Once you’ve crocheted one row together, Ch 1 and turn, and Sc 1 more row. Finish off and weave in ends.

Sides of Lid: (Make 2)

In White

Row 1: Ch 9. Sc in the 2nd Ch from the hook. Sc in the next 7 st (8)
Row 2-3: Ch 1 and turn. Sc in the next 8 st (8)
Row 4: Ch 1 and turn. Dec, Sc in the next 4 st, Dec (6)
Row 5: Ch 1 and turn. Sc in the next 6 st (6)

Row 7: Ch 1 and turn. Dec 2 times (2)
Row 8: Ch 1 and turn. Dec 1 time (1)
Don’t crochet around the edges of this piece.
Finish off, leaving a long tail for sewing. Align the bottom of this piece to the edge of the milk box (Pic 1), and sew them together. Now place the tail of yarn coming from the tip onto your needle, and insert it a few stitches INTO the milk box (Pic 2). This will angle the sides of the box, making the milk box look more realistic. Now sew the sides to the box at an angle (Pic 3). Once done, finish off and weave in ends.

Cap:

In Blue

Round 2: *Inc* all around (12)

Round 1: 6 Sc into a Magic Ring (6)
Finish off, leaving a long tail for sewing. Pin the cheeks on as shown and sew or hot glue on. Once done, weave in ends and cut any excess yarn.

Smile:

In Black Embroidery Thread

Insert needle into the middle area of the toy as shown (Pic 1) and pull needle out at the left of the toy’s eye as shown (Pic 1). Reinsert needle into the middle of the toy (Pic 2) and pull needle out next to the toy’s right eye (Pic 2). Reinsert needle into the middle of the toy as shown (Pic 3) and pull needle out nearby. Tie ends of thread into firm knots and bring knots inside the toy to hide. Cut any excess yarn.

Done! If you made this cereal bundle, I would LOVE to see! You can show me by posting a picture in the comments underneath this post 🙂

  1. I love this pattern. Great for the house centre. The only difference I would do is embroidery the eyes so young ones can also play with.

  2. they look so cute 🥰

  3. There are no instructions for the spoon HANDLE grrr so frustrating!
