Hi everyone, I am so happy to share this free owl & snow owl amigurumi crochet pattern with you today! I have to admit that one of the most pattern requests I get is for an owl. I have another owl pattern, but with this one I tried to make it more fun and realistic with feathers! So I really hope that you like it 🙂
I had a nice challenge making this pattern, as I spent a long while trying to figure out how to make the 3d feathers. Do I crochet them into the owl itself, or do I make a separate piece? I realized it was getting too complicated making it into the owl itself, so I decided to just make the feathers it’s own piece. I think it’s better that way, because now the feathers are optional! If you’re a new crocheter then I definitely recommend giving the feathers a try. They use a crocodile stitch, which is a bit hard to wrap your mind around at first. But after the first few stitches you’ll get it!
Let’s see, I wish I had more to say about these owls but I don’t! If you haven’t already checked out the fantasy set, I urge you to look at the other patterns. You might find something you really like 🙂 And with that, I’ll let you get to crocheting this owl!

Getting started… We will start by crocheting the top of the owls head, and work our way down to the body. The head and body are made in one continuous piece! After this we will make the arms and beak. Then, we will make the feathers. The feathers are made by a crocodile stitch. I show you exactly how to do this! However, this stitch may be harder for a beginner crocheter.

The feathers are made by using a crocodile stitch. This stitch is a little difficult if it’s your very first time making one. However, after making a few you will get the hang of it! Note that every Ch 3 we make in the feathers WILL count as 1 Dc.
Row 1: Ch 4. SlSt to first Ch to form a circle (Pic 1). Ch 3. This counts as 1 Dc. Dc 4 more times into the circle (Pic 2-3). Ch 1, Dc 5 more times into the circle (Pic 4).

Crocodile Stitch Tip:
Note: When making the dragon stitches, every time you’re making the first 5 sets of double crochets for the dragon stitch, you must have your current row facing as shown (Pic 1). Work the double crochets into the Dc post in the direction shown (Pic 1).

When you work the second set of 5 double crochets for the dragon stitch, make sure your work is then flipped to the other side as shown (Pic 2). Work the double crochets into the Dc post in the direction shown (Pic 2-3). Doing this will make sure the stitches look right!
