Play Dead Pug Amigurumi – Free Crochet Pattern

Supplies:
• Yarn 6/Chunky Weight Yarn in…
Cream color for pug, black or dark brown, and pink for tongue
I used Premier Parfait Yarn.
•6mm Crochet Hook
•15mm safety eyes
•Safety nose
•Tapestry needle
•Scissors
•Stuffing
•230GSM cardstock paper for the sign
•Hot glue

This “play dead pug” is a silly pattern I made for Halloween! You can make the pug look more like a zombie if you change some colors and add a little stitch embroidery effect to his head! I considered embroidering a little red on his ear to look like blood, but I thought that was too creepy to be honest 😂 I’m a softie lol! But you can definitely get creative with this pattern! Let’s get started.
Head/Body:
Start in cream

Round 1: 6 Sc into a Magic Ring (6)
Round 2: *Inc* all around (12)
Round 3: *Inc, Sc in the next st* all around (18)
Round 4: *Inc, Sc in the next 2 st* all around (24)
Round 5: *Inc, Sc in the next 3 st* all around (30)
Round 6-8: *Sc* all around (30)
Add a different colored stitch marker to the 24th stitch in Round 8. Later we will replace this eye stitch marker with a safety eye.
Round 9-10: *Sc* all around (30)
Add the eye into the marked area now.
Round 11: Sc in the next 3 st. Repeat *skip the next st, sc in the next st* 12 times. Sc in the next 3 st (18)
Round 12: *Dec, Sc in the next st* all around (12)
Round 13: Working in the FLO, repeat *Inc, Sc in the next st* all around (18)
Round 14: Working in BOTH loops, *Inc, Sc in the next 2 st* all around (24)
Round 15: *Inc, Sc in the next 3 st* all around (30)
Stuff the head firmly now
Round 16-21: *Sc* all around (30)
Round 22: *Inc, Sc in the next 4 st* all around (36)
Round 23: *Sc* all around (36)
Round 24: *Dec, Sc in the next 4 st* all around (30)
Round 25: *Dec, Sc in the next 3 st* all around (24)
Round 26: *Dec, Sc in the next 2 st* all around (18)
Stuff the body firmly now. Continue stuffing after each round.
Round 27: *Dec, Sc in the next st* all around (12)
Round 28: *Dec* all around (6)
Finish off, leaving a long tail for sewing. Weave in the ends and cut any excess yarn.

Embroider the X on the toy’s eye area as shown.
Mouth Area

Top Mouth Piece (#1):
In brown or black
Row 1: Ch 9. Skip the next 2 ch, Dc in the 3rd Ch from the hook. Dc in the next 2 st. Dc 2 times in the next st. Dc in the next 3 st. SlSt into the same st. Finish off, leaving a long tail for sewing. Place a safety nose in the top middle area of the mouth. Set this piece aside for now.
Tongue (#2):
In pink
Row 1: Ch 3. Sc in the 2nd Ch from the hook. Sc in the next st. Finish off, leaving a long tail for sewing. Hot glue the tongue to the right side of the toy’s mouth as shown. Tie the ends of yarn together to secure, then clip any excess yarn.
Lower Mouth Piece (#3):
In brown or black
Round 1: 6 Sc into a Magic Ring. SlSt to the first st.
Finish off, leaving a long tail for sewing. Place the mouth behind the larger mouth and tongue. Hot glue in place. Now pin the entire mouth to the pug and sew or hot glue into place.
Ears: (Make 2)
In brown or black

Row 1: Ch 5. Sc in the 3rd Ch from the hook, Hdc in the next st, Dc 3 times in the next st. Finish off, leaving a long tail for sewing. Pin the ears on as shown and sew on. Once done, weave in ends and cut any excess yarn.
Legs: (Make 2)
In cream

Round 1: 6 Sc into a Magic Ring (6)
Round 2: *Inc* all around (12)
Round 3: *Inc, Sc in the next 3 st* (15)
Round 4: *Sc* all around (15)
Finish off, leaving a long tail for sewing. Pin the legs onto the sides of the body as shown and sew on, making sure to stuff the leg before fully sewing on. Once done, weave in the ends and cut any excess yarn.
Feet: (Make 2)
In cream

Round 1: 6 Sc into a Magic Ring (6)
Round 2-3: *Sc* all around (6)
Finish off, leaving a long tail for sewing. Pin the feet onto the legs as shown and sew on, making sure to stuff the feet before fully sewing on. Once done, weave in the ends and cut any excess yarn.
Arms: (Make 2)
In cream

Round 1: 6 Sc into a Magic Ring (6)
Round 2-3: *Sc* all around (6)
Round 4: Inc in the next 2 st, Sc in the next 2 st, Dec 1 time (7)
Round 5: Sc in the next st, Inc in the next 2 st, Sc in the next 2 st, Dec 1 time (8)
Round 6-9: *Sc* all around (8)
Round 10: *Dec* all around (4)
Finish off, leaving a long tail for sewing. Pin the arms on as shown and sew on. Once done, weave in the ends and cut any excess yarn.
Tail:
In cream

Row 1: Ch 6. Sc 4 times in the 2nd Ch from the hook. Sc 3 times in each of the next 4 ch (16)
Finish off, leaving a long tail for sewing. Twist the piece so it curls. Pin the tail onto the back of the toy and sew on. Once done, weave in ends and cut any excess yarn.
Sign:
Below is the sign which is 3″ across and 2″ down. Cut around the black line, then align the card to the toy’s hands. Place a small dot of glue on the corner of the card, then hold it in place on the toy’s hand until dry.
