• Yarn 4/Medium Weight Yarn in…
Brown, cream, grey, white, and red
•4mm Crochet Hook
•10mm safety eyes
•Small safety oval for nose
•Tapestry needle to weave in ends
•Scissors
•Stuffing

Sloths are so cute, but they’re even cuter when they shove their love! This sloth hugging a heart is a perfect gift for anyone you love! This pattern is simple and fun to make, and you could even make the sloth pink if you wanted to theme it for Valentine’s Day! Let’s get started!

Body:

In Brown Yarn

We start at the top of the head and work our way down. The head and body are made in one continuous piece.

Round 1: 6 Sc into a Magic Ring (6)
Round 2: *Inc* all around (12)
Round 3: *Inc, Sc in the next st* all around (18)
Round 4: *Inc, Sc in the next 2 st* all around (24)
Round 5: *Inc, Sc in the next 3 st* all around (30)
Round 6: *Inc, Sc in the next 4 st* all around (36)
Round 7-14: *Sc* all around (36)
Round 15: *Dec, Sc in the next 4 st* all around (30)
Round 16: *Dec, Sc in the next 3 st* all around (24)
Round 17: *Dec, Sc in the next 2 st* all around (18)
Round 18: In the Front Loop Only, repeat *Inc, Sc in the next 2 st* all around (24)
Round 19: In BOTH loops, repeat *Inc, Sc in the next 3 st* all around (30)
Round 20: *Sc* all around (30)
Round 21: *Inc, Sc in the next 4 st* all around (36)
Round 22-30: *Sc* all around (36)
Stuff the head firmly now.
Round 31: *Dec, Sc in the next 4 st* all around (30)
Round 32: *Dec, Sc in the next 3 st* all around (24)
Round 33: *Dec, Sc in the next 2 st* all around (18)
Stuff the body firmly now. Continue stuffing after each round.
Round 34: *Dec, Sc in the next st* all around (12)
Round 35: *Dec* all around (6)
Finish off now, leaving a long tail for sewing. Sew the remaining stitches closed and weave in ends. Cut any excess yarn.

Face:

In Cream Yarn

Round 1: 6 Sc into a Magic Ring (6)
Round 2: *Inc* all around (12)
Round 3: *Inc, Sc in the next st* all around (18)
Now we will mark where to place the safety eyes later. Add a different colored stitch marker into the 6th and 13th stitch in Round 3. Later we will replace these markers with the safety eyes.
Round 4: *Inc, Sc in the next 2 st* all around (24)
Round 5: Sc in the next 4 st, Hdc in the next 2 st, Dc in the next 4 st, Dc 3 times in the next st, Hdc in the next st, SlSt in the next 2 st, Hdc in the next st, Dc 3 times in the next st, Dc in the next 4 st, Hdc in the next st, Sc in the next 3 st. SlSt into the next st to complete (28)
Finish off, leaving a long tail for sewing. Place nose into the middle of the toy’s face. Set the face aside for now.

Eye Patches:

In Grey Yarn

Round 1: 6 Sc into a Magic Ring (6)
Round 2: *Inc* in the next 2 st. Finish off here, leaving a long tail for sewing. Place a safety eye into the center of the magic ring. Place the eyes onto the toy’s face and sew or hot glue on. Now sew or hot glue the toy’s face to the toy’s head. Once done, weave in ends.

Front Arm: (Make 1)

In Brown Yarn

Round 1: 6 Sc into a Magic Ring (6)
Round 2: *Inc, Sc in the next st* all around (9)
Round 3-12: *Sc* all around (9)
Round 13: *Inc, Sc in the next 2 st* all around (12)
Finish off now, leaving a long tail for sewing. Very lightly stuff the arm. Pin the arm on as shown, but don’t sew on now. We will sew all the arms and legs on later once we are happy with the placement of each limb.

Front Leg: (Make 1)

In Brown Yarn

Round 1: 6 Sc into a Magic Ring (6)
Round 2: *Inc, Sc in the next st* all around (9)
Round 3-11: *Sc* all around (9)
Round 12: *Inc, Sc in the next 2 st* all around (12)
Finish off now, leaving a long tail for sewing. Very lightly stuff the arm. Pin the leg on as shown, but don’t sew on now. We will sew all the arms and legs on later once we are happy with the placement of each limb.

Back Arm and Leg: (Make 2)

In Brown Yarn

Round 1: 6 Sc into a Magic Ring (6)
Round 2: *Inc, Sc in the next st* all around (9)
Round 3-10: *Sc* all around (9)
Finish off now, leaving a long tail for sewing. Very lightly stuff the arm and leg. Pin the arm and leg on as shown, but don’t sew on now. We will sew all the arms and legs on later once we are happy with the placement of each limb.

Smile:

In Black Embroidery Yarn

Insert needle with black embroidery thread where shown, then pull needle out below the toy’s right eye (Pic 1). Reinsert needle below the toy’s left eye (Pic 2), then pull needle out at the middle smile area, making sure the needle lands ABOVE the thread (Pic 3). Reinsert needle into the same spot, this time making sure the needle is BELOW the thread (Pic 4). Pull needle out anywhere and tie knots where the tail ends of yarn is. Bring these knots inside the toy to hide and cut any excess yarn. The knots will help secure the smile.

Heart:

The heart is made in two pieces, then crocheted together to form one entire piece.

Heart Piece 1:

In Red Yarn

Round 1: 6 Sc into a Magic Ring (6)
Round 2: *Inc* all around (12)
Round 3: *Inc, Sc in the next st* all around (18)
Round 4-5: *Sc* all around (18)
Finish off, leaving a long tail for sewing. Set aside for now.

Heart Piece 2:

In Red Yarn

Round 1: 6 Sc into a Magic Ring (6)
Round 2: *Inc* all around (12)
Round 3: *Inc, Sc in the next st* all around (18)
Round 4: *Sc* all around (18)
Round 5: Sc in the next 4 st (Pic 1). Now align the first heart piece to the second heart piece so that the stitches align with one another (Pic 3). Going through BOTH stitches at the same time, Sc in the next 4 st (Pic 4-11). Working back on the second heart piece (Pic 12), Sc in the next 10 st.
(Stitch Count: Each heart piece has 14 stitches. Don’t count the 4 middle stitches connecting them.)

Round 6: Sc in the next 4 st. Working on the other heart, Sc in the next 14 st. Working back on the other heart, Sc in the next 10 st (28)

Round 7-8: *Sc* all around (28)
Round 9: *Dec, Sc in the next 2 st* all around (21)
Round 10-12: *Sc* all around (21)
Stuff the heart firmly now. Continue stuffing after each round.
Round 13: *Dec, Sc in the next st* all around (14)
Round 14: *Dec* all around (7)
Finish off, leaving a long tail for sewing. Sew the remaining stitches closed now and weave in ends. Cut any excess yarn.

Pin the toy’s arms and legs onto the heart as shown and sew or hot glue on. Then, using white yarn, embroider three lines onto the tips of the hands and feet. Once done, weave in ends and cut any excess yarn.
