•4mm Crochet Hook
•Tapestry needle
•Scissors
•Stuffing
•Hot glue gun (Optional)
•12mm safety eyes

Isn’t this little crow the cutest? For such scary looking birds, I know that plenty of people love them. That’s why I decided to make a pattern for one! This pattern is fairly easy, the hardest part might be working with black yarn. Try to have good lighting as you crochet this pattern, it really helps when you try to see your stitches!

Head/Body:

In Black

Round 1: 6 Sc into a Magic Ring (6)
Round 2: *Inc* all around (12)
Round 3: *Inc, Sc in the next st* all around (18)
Round 4: *Inc, Sc in the next 2 st* all around (24)
Round 5: *Inc, Sc in the next 3 st* all around (30)
Round 6: *Inc, Sc in the next 4 st* all around (36)
Round 7-10: *Sc* all around (36)
Now we will mark where to place the safety eyes. Add a different colored stitch marker into the 13th and 23rd stitch in Round 10. Later we will replace these stitch markers with safety eyes.
Round 11-15: *Sc* all around (36)
Add the eyes into the marked areas now.
Round 16: Ch 9. Sc 3 times in the 2nd Ch from the hook. Sc in the next 7 ch. Working back on the body, Sc in the next 36 st. Working on the chain (this time we’re working on the right side of the chain), Sc in the next 8 ch. Inc in the next st. Sc in the next 9 st (65)
Round 17: Sc in the next 44 st. Inc in the next st, Sc in the next 9 st (55)
Round 18: Sc in the next 13 st. Repeat *Dec, Sc in the next 3 st* 3 times. Sc in the next 17 st. Inc in the next st, Sc in the next 9 st (53)
Round 19: *Sc* all around (53)
Round 20: Sc in the next 11 st. Repeat *Dec, Sc in the next 3 st* 3 times. Sc in the next 16 st. Dec 1 time, Sc in the next 9 st (49)
Round 21-25: *Sc* all around (49)
Round 26: Sc in the next 47 st. Dec 1 time (48)
Round 27: *Dec, Sc in the next 6 st* all around (42)
Round 28: *Dec, Sc in the next 5 st (36)
Round 29: *Dec, Sc in the next 4 st* all around (30)
Round 30: *Dec, Sc in the next 3 st* all around (24)
Stuff the body firmly now. Continue stuffing after each round.
Round 31: *Dec, Sc in the next 2 st* all around (18)
Round 32: *Dec, Sc in the next st* all around (12)
Round 33: *Dec* all around (6)
Finish off, leaving a long tail for sewing. Sew the remaining stitches closed and weave in ends. Cut any excess yarn.

Beak:

In Grey

Round 1: 6 Sc into a Magic Ring (6)
Round 2: Inc in the next 3 st, Sc in the next 3 st (9)
Round 3: Sc in the next 2 st. Inc in the next 2 st, Sc in the next 5 st (11)
Round 4: SlSt in the next 2 st, Sc in the next 7 st, SlSt in the next 2 st (11)
Round 5-6: SlSt in the next 2 st, Sc in the next 7 st, SlSt in the next st (11)
Round 7: SlSt in the next 3 st, Sc in the next st, Inc in the next st, Sc in the next st, Inc in the next 2 st, Sc in the next st, Inc in the next st, Sc in the next st (15)
Finish off, leaving a long tail for sewing. Pin the beak on as shown, make sure the point of the beak points down. Sew on, be sure to stuff before fully sewing on. Once done, weave in ends and cut any excess yarn.

Arm:

In Black

Round 1: 6 Sc into a Magic Ring (6)
Round 2: *Inc* all around (12)
Round 3: *Inc, Sc in the next st* all around (18)
Round 4: *Inc, Sc in the next 2 st* all around (24)
Round 5: *Inc, Sc in the next 3 st* all around (30)
Round 6: *Inc, Sc in the next 4 st* all around (36)
Round 7: *Inc, Sc in the next 5 st* all around (42)
Round 8: Fold the circle in half so the stitches align as shown (Pic 1). Inserting your hook through BOTH the stitches (Pic 2), SlSt the stitches together until you reach the end of the circle (Pic 3). Once done, finish off, leaving a long tail for sewing. Pin the arms on as shown (Pic 4) and sew or hot glue on. Once done, weave in ends and cut any excess yarn.

Legs: (Make 2)

In Black

Round 1: 6 Sc into a Magic Ring (6)
Round 2: *Inc* all around (12)
Round 3: *Inc, Sc in the next st* all around (18)
Round 4-6: *Sc* all around (18)
Finish off, leaving a long tail for sewing. Pin the legs on as shown and sew on. Be sure to add stuffing before fully sewing on. Once done, weave in ends and cut any excess yarn.

Feet: (Make 2)

In Grey

Round 1: 6 Sc into a Magic Ring (6)
Round 2: *Inc* all around (12)
Round 3: Repeat *Ch 3. Sc in the 2nd Ch from the hook. Dc in the next Ch. Working back on the circle, SlSt in the next st* 3 times. Finish off, leaving a long tail for sewing. Pin the feet on as shown and sew or hot glue on. Once done, weave in ends and cut any excess yarn.

Eye Embroidery:

In Black

Insert needle with black yarn into the bottom left of the toy‘s left eye (Pic 1). Pull needle out at the toy‘s bottom right eye as shown (Pic 2). Reinsert needle at the top of the toy‘s right eye (Pic 3). Pull needle out at the top left of the toy‘s left eye (Pic 4). Pull both ends of yarn firmly at the same time to tighten (Pic 5), then tie both ends of yarn into a knot (Pic 6). Bring this knot inside the toy to hide and cut any excess yarn.

  4. I messed up, decreased an extra stitch in the chest, the tail came out pointier but I think it works. Meet Heckle!
