Easy All-Sizes Crochet Hat – Free Pattern

Free all sizes crochet hat pattern easy

Hello everyone! Today I’m releasing my very first CLOTHING crochet pattern, called the “Easy All-Sizes Crochet Hat Free Pattern” I have to admit that I’m a little nervous (I feel like I say that a lot 😅) because this is the first ever wearable pattern. This means the sizes have to be pretty accurate, so I have tried my absolute best to get the sizing on these hats correct. I looked at many head sizing charts to measure each hat to each age group, but I’m willing to adjust the pattern if it’s needed. Even though I matched the sizes to recommended hat size charts, It’s still important to follow the notes I provide at the very beginning of the pattern to make sure your hat will come out to the same size as mine.

Please let me know what you think of this pattern! I am really looking forward to making fun additions to these hats, like a cat hat, cow hat, pig hat, leprechaun hat… the list can go on and on! But let’s start simple with this basic crochet hat pattern 🙂 (P.S. Don’t worry amigurumi lovers – I have a SUPPPPPER cute pattern being released next week along with a crochet super cute crochet BAG. Oh my goodness I’m really experimenting with patterns LOL)

Supplies:
• Yarn4/Medium Worsted Weight in any color
•5mm Crochet Hook
•Tapestry needle
•Scissors
•Tailor’s Measuring Tape

Additional Information:

This is a simple and easy pattern to make a crochet hat/beanie in all sizes – ranging from preemie to large adult.

It’s very important to follow these rules to make sure your hat comes out the correct size:

•Use the recommended hook size (5mm) and recommended yarn size (4/Medium Weight Yarn).
Even though your says 4/Medium Weight, there can still be a slight variance in the yarn’s thickness, making the hat slightly larger or smaller.

•Make a test swatch to make sure your tension matches the tension used in this pattern.
This essentially means you want you want how tight you crochet to match up with how tight I crochet so our hats come out the same size. You can adjust your tightness by slightly tugging on your yarn after each yarn over you make.

•Measure your head to follow the closest hat size AND measure the hat as you’re making it.
If you find that you need more/less rounds based on your measurements, simply add/remove the rounds needed!

Important Note:

Your Chain 3 made at the beginning of each round will not count as a double crochet at the start of each round. The Chain 3 simply build height to the new round we make, but doesn’t count as a stitch. That being said, you will crochet into the same stitch our Chain 3 is coming out of starting from Round 2 and on.

Test Swatch for Gauge:

Round 1: Ch 4. Dc in the 3rd Ch from the hook. Dc 9 more times into that same stitch. Skip the Chain 3, then SlSt in the first Dc of the round to join. (10)
Round 2: Ch 3. Create 2 Dc into each st. Skip the Ch 3, then SlSt in the first Dc of the round to join. (20)
Measure across the circle’s inside loops only. They should measure 2″ across. If your measurement comes out larger, adjust your tension by crocheting tighter. If your measurement comes out smaller, adjust your tension by crocheting looser.

How to start the hat:

The hat is started the same way for each size. However, if you need to see how it’s done, here’s some photos to help!
