No Sew Taco Amigurumi – Free Crochet Pattern

• Yarn 4/Medium Weight Yarn in…
Cream, brown, red, yellow, and green
•4mm Crochet Hook
•12mm safety eyes
•Tapestry needle
•Scissors
•Stuffing
•Black embroidery thread

This taco is so cute and crocheting it all in one piece is so convenient! This pattern uses a lot of unique and fun stitches, such as a popcorn and loop stitch. This makes for a great sensory toy!

How to do a loop stitch:

Insert your hook into the next stitch (Pic 1). Hold the yarn as shown (Pic 2). Pull the yarn on the left with your hook through the stitch (Pic 3-5). You will have 2 loops on your hook (Pic 5). Yarn over and pull through both loops (Pic 6-8). You’ve made 1 loop stitch, it will be a loop at the back. Pull that loop from the back to the front (Pic 9-10), and keep crocheting!

How to do a popcorn stitch:

Dc 4 times into the next st. Remove your hook from the current working loop and insert it into the first Dc made (Pic 2). Now also reinsert your hook into the current working loop (Pic 3). You will have two loops on your hook. Yarn over (Pic 4) and pull through both loops (Pic 5). You have just made one popcorn stitch (Pic 6).

Taco:

Start in cream color

Round 1: 6 Sc into a Magic Ring (6)
Round 2: *Inc* all around (12)
Round 3: *Inc, Sc in the next st* all around (18)
Round 4: *Inc, Sc in the next 2 st* all around (24)
Round 5: *Inc, Sc in the next 3 st* all around (30)
Round 6: *Inc, Sc in the next 4 st* all around (36)
Round 7: *Inc, Sc in the next 5 st* all around (42)
Round 8: *Inc, Sc in the next 6 st* all around (48)
Round 9: *Inc, Sc in the next 7 st* all around (54)
Now we will mark where to place the safety eyes. Add a different colored stitch marker into the 5th and 11th stitch in Round 9. Later we will replace these markers with safety eyes.
Round 10: *Inc, Sc in the next 8 st* all around (60)
Round 11: Change to brown. In the BLO, repeat *Inc, Sc in the next 9 st* 3 times. Change to green, in the BLO repeat *Inc, Sc in the next 9 st* 3 times (66)
Round 12: Change to brown. In BOTH loops repeat *Popcorn st in the next st, Sc in the next st* 16 times. Sc in the next st. Change to green, Sc in the next st. Working in the FLO, place 3 Dc into each st until you meet the end of the round.

Round 13: Change to red. Working in the FLO, repeat *Sc in the next 2 st, 2 Dc in each of the next 2 st* 8 times. Sc in the next st. Change to yellow, working in both loops, LpSt until you meet the end of the round.

Finish off, leaving a long tail for sewing. Fold the taco in half, making sure the beef and tomatoes are on one side and the cheese and lettuce are on the other side. Place the safety eyes in now. If you need to, adjust the safety eye’s placement before securing.

One the safety eyes are secured, place the tail of yarn onto your needle and starting at the corner, sew the opposing stitches together to close. Repeat this down the taco, making sure to firmly stuff before fully sewing closed. Once done, weave in ends and cut any excess yarn.

Insert needle into the middle area of the toy as shown (Pic 1) and pull needle out at the left of the toy’s eye as shown (Pic 1). Reinsert needle into the middle of the toy (Pic 2) and pull needle out next to the toy’s right eye (Pic 2). Reinsert needle into the middle of the toy as shown (Pic 3) and pull needle out nearby. Tie ends of thread into firm knots and bring knots inside the toy to hide. Cut any excess yarn.
