Toucan Amigurumi – Free Crochet Pattern

• Yarn 4/Medium Weight Yarn in…
Black, white, blue, pink, grey, red, orange, yellow
•4mm Crochet Hook
•Tapestry needle
•Scissors
•Stuffing
•Hot glue gun (optional)
•12mm safety eyes

This toucan is perfect for those who love tropical weather, birds, or even a fruity cereal we all ate as children! This bird is simple and easy to make. It’s also quick, making the perfect project to finish in an evening or two.

Let’s get started!

Body:

In Black

Round 1: 6 Sc into a Magic Ring (6)
Round 2: *Inc* all around (12)
Round 3: *Inc, Sc in the next st* all around (18)
Round 4: *Inc, Sc in the next 2 st* all around (24)
Round 5: *Inc, Sc in the next 3 st* all around (30)
Round 6: *Inc, Sc in the next 4 st* all around (36)
Round 7: *Inc, Sc in the next 5 st* all around (42)
Round 8-13: *Sc* all around (42)
Now we will mark where to place the eyes. Add a different colored eye stitch marker into the 20th and 25th stitch in Round 13.
Round 14-18: *Sc* all around (42)
Make the eye circles now, then add the eyes into the marked areas. After that, continue making the body.
Round 19: *Dec, Sc in the next 5 st* all around (36)
Round 20: *Dec, Sc in the next 4 st* all around (30)
Round 21: *Dec, Sc in the next 3 st* all around (24)
Stuff the body firmly here. Continue stuffing after each round.
Round 22: *Dec, Sc in the next 2 st* all around (18)
Round 23: *Dec, Sc in the next st* all around (12)
Round 24: *Dec* all around (6)
Finish off, leaving a long tail for sewing. Sew the remaining stitches closed and weave in ends.

Eyes: (Make 2)

In Blue

Round 1: 6 Sc into a Magic Ring (6)
Round 2: *Inc* all around (12)
Finish off, leaving a long tail for sewing. Place the eye in the middle of the circle as shown. Place the eye in the marked area and secure with the safety eye washer.

Belly:

In White

Round 1: 6 Sc into a Magic Ring (6)
Round 2: *Inc* all around (12)
Round 3: *Inc, Sc in the next st* all around (18)
Round 4: *Inc, Sc in the next 2 st* all around (24)
Round 5: *Inc, Sc in the next 3 st* all around (30)
Round 6: *Inc, Sc in the next 4 st* all around (36)
Row 7: SlSt in the next st. Turn. Skip the next st, then Sc in the next 13 st. SlSt in the next st.
Row 8: Turn. SlSt in the next st, Sc in the next 11 st, SlSt in the next st.
Finish off, leaving a long tail for sewing. Pin the belly on as shown and sew/hot glue on. Once done, weave in ends and cut any excess yarn.

Nose:

Start in Black

Round 1: 6 Sc into a Magic Ring (6)
Round 2: *Inc, Sc in the next st* all around (9)
Round 3: *Inc, Sc in the next 2 st* 2 times. SlSt in the next 3 st (11)
Round 4: *Inc, Sc in the next 3 st* 2 times. SlSt in the next 3 st (13)
Round 5: Change to red. Sc in the next 5 st, Inc in the next 2 st, Sc in the next 3 st, SlSt in the next 3 st (15)
Round 6: SlSt in the next 2 st, Sc in the next 4 st, Inc in the next 2 st, Sc in the next 5 st, SlSt in the next 2 st (17)
Round 7: Change to orange. SlSt in the next 2 st. Working in the BLO, Sc in the next 5 st, Inc in the next 2 st, Sc in the next 6 st. Working in BOTH loops, SlSt in the next 2 st (19)
Round 8: Change to yellow. Working in the BLO, *Sc* all around (19)

Finish off, leaving a long tail for sewing. Stuff the beak firmly now. Pin the beak on as shown and sew on. Once sewn on, finish off and weave in ends.

Cheeks: (Make 2)

In Pink

Round 1: 6 Sc into a Magic Ring (6)
Finish off, leaving a long tail for sewing. Pin on as shown and sew or hot glue on. Once done, weave in ends and cut any excess yarn.

Feet: (Make 2)

In Grey

Round 1: 6 Sc into a Magic Ring (6)
Round 2: *Inc* all around (12)
Round 3: SlSt in the next 2 st. Hdc, Trc, Hdc into the same st. SlSt in the next st. Hdc, Trc, Hdc into the same next st. SlSt in the next st.
Finish off, leaving a long tail for sewing. Pin on as shown and sew or hot glue on. Once done, weave in ends and cut any excess yarn.

Arms: (Make 2)

In Black

Round 1: 6 Sc into a Magic Ring (6)
Round 2: *Inc* all around (12)
Round 3: *Inc, Sc in the next st* all around (18)
Round 4: *Inc, Sc in the next 2 st* all around (24)
Round 5: *Inc, Sc in the next 3 st* all around (30)
Round 6: *Inc, Sc in the next 4 st* all around (36)
Round 7: Fold the arm in half so the stitches align as shown (Pic 1). Going through BOTH stitches, SlSt the stitches together. Once done, finish off, leaving a long tail for sewing. Pin the arms on as shown and sew or hot glue on. Once done, weave in ends and cut any excess yarn.

Tail:

In Black

Row 1: Ch 11. Sc in the 2nd Ch from the hook. Sc in the next 9 Ch (10)
Row 2: Repeat *Ch 8. Dc in the 3rd Ch from the hook. Hdc in the next 5 Ch. Working back on the row, SlSt in the next 2 st* a total of 5 times.
Once done, fold the tail in half and pin to the toy’s back as shown. Sew or hot glue on. Once done, weave in ends and cut any excess yarn.
